Vote YES on Prop 408

Prop 408 is the $20 million bond election for capital improvements for the Camp Verde Unified School District. Prop 408 would authorize funding to:

• Add classroom space to accommodate growth and maintain manageable class sizes
• Enhance school safety and security
• Develop a regulation athletic facility for students and community use
• Upgrade technology and infrastructure
• Modernize the school bus fleet by replacing older buses 

For more than 20 years, Camp Verde Unified School District has operated without a bond or override while maintaining a strong commitment to student achievement, responsible financial management, and competitive teacher salaries.

CVUSD’s enrollment is growing.  As the town of Camp Verde continues to grow and new housing developments bring more families into the community, the District is planning for future enrollment growth and facility needs. CVUSD wants to be a part of the infrastructure that encourages the current students to stay in Camp Verde and raise the next generation. 

A school bond is a voter-approved funding source used only for capital improvements and long-term investments such as buildings, facilities, buses, safety improvements, and technology. By law, bond funds cannot be used for:

• Teacher or staff salaries
• Employee benefits
• Daily operating expenses

Arizona law also requires annual public reporting on bond expenditures. In addition, a citizen oversight committee will help ensure projects are completed on time, on budget, and as promised.

• New construction and additions to existing schools $15,000,000
• Renovations, improvements and upgrades to existing buildings and sites $4,200,000
• Pupil transportation vehicles $800,000

The tax rate for the proposed bond is estimated be $0.80.  A residential property with a Limited Assessed Valuation of $100,000 would increase approximately $80 annually.

Tax values for the Camp Verde Unified School District have steadily decreased since 2016 from $4.34 to $3.25.  The impact of this bond is expected to keep tax rates below 2016 amounts.

Estimates are based on current assumptions and may vary depending on future assessed valuations.  

Without bond funding:

• The District will continue to rely on limited state funding for major capital projects.
• The District's ability to provide adequate classroom space will be constrained, requiring larger class sizes with less efficient and more temporary solutions.
• Safety and facility improvements will be postponed.
• Athletic facility development will remain uncertain and be delayed for the foreseeable future.
• Bus replacement and technology upgrades will occur more slowly.

The District is committed to an open and transparent process. If the bond is approved a citizen oversight committee will be appointed to ensure bond funds are spent as promised, on time and on budget.
